The ICCE and Brother took a crucial step forward by joining forces to combat counterfeit imaging supplies. Phil Scrase, Chairman of ICCE and Oki Vice-President of Consumables EMEA said “We are delighted that Brother has joined the ICCE. Brother, ICCE and its members will continue to pursue the counterfeiters in line with the ethos of zero tolerance of counterfeit imaging supplies.”
Brother is no stranger to the prevention and combating of counterfeit imaging supplies, and will advance their anti-counterfeit strategies through their membership of the ICCE.
Mike Brownbridge, Brother’s Pan European Business Manager, commented, “Brother has growing concerns regarding imaging supplies piracy & the damage it does both to customer expectations & our brand’s credibility. As a global player we feel that we can best demonstrate our intention to help save our customers from being cheated by joining the ICCE.”
Since new European anti-counterfeiting legislation was introduced in 1999 there has been a 900 per cent increase in customs seizures of fraudulent goods. More new cross-border laws are being proposed by the European Commission to attack the problem. Production of fake t-shirts and jeans is declining in favour of electric goods like SLR cameras, PlayStations and everyday items like printer cartridges, medicines and car parts. Fake Canon cameras were recently seized in Europe.*
